… but it’sa a good car Ma !!!
Ahh! The desperate cry of every teenager trying to convince disapproving parents that the car they so desperately want is safe and a good deal.
I am an American from the 1950’s who appreciates the Detroit cars I grew up with, owned and drove with my great grandparents, grandparents, parents. And I bring a select few home to Sweden from time to time to share with others.
The way I work is simple: I trade in cars that I have invested a great deal of time, effort, money, and soul in. Buying a car is stressful because much of the process relies on faith and trust. When I buy a car – the one I’m trying to sell to you now – I have to have faith in my own judgement about whether the car is worthwhile investing in, what it is worth, and whether it is in good mechanical condition without any hidden faults. I also have to have a great deal of trust in the owner to be honest and open about telling me everything I need to know about the car. In short: Am I doing the right thing or making a very expensive mistake? Like I said, stressful!
To minimize my stress, I perform thorough, systematic, inspections of all of the major systems of the cars that I look at. If possible, I also have the cars inspected by a certified mechanic before I buy them.
If a car comes home with me, it then undergoes a complete inspection and testing of all major systems, service maintenance including change of all fluids if required (or if the maintenance history is uncertain), cleaning, detailing, and needed repair. Hopefully, this will make it easier for me to sell you the car in good faith and in good conscience. You get a good car, I get good karma.
My cars are well inspected before I buy them and then all systems are thoroughly inspected and maintained to the manufacturer’s standards and more importantly to Swedish vehicle inspection standards before they leave the U.S. Prospective buyers can examine all inspection reports, video and still photographs, and other documentation, including:
- Engine inspection
- compression test
- cylinder leakage test
- exhaust blow-by test
- leakage
- hoses
- Suspension and steering system inspection
- Tire wear analysis
- wheel bearings
- control arms
- Electrical system test
- Battery condition
- Alternator test
- Brake system inspection
- Brake pad/shoe wear
- Rotor/drum wear
- Hydraulics
- Body and frame inspection
